Parent & Family Compact 26-27

Each school that receives Title I, Part A funding must work together with parents to create a School-Parent Compact, which is a written agreement explaining how the school, parents, and students will share the responsibility for supporting student learning and helping every child succeed. As part of the school’s Parent and Family Engagement Plan, the compact outlines what the school will do to support learning, what parents can do at home, how students will take responsibility for their own learning, and how families and the school will partner to help children meet the state’s academic standards. The goal of the compact is to ensure that everyone understands their role in helping students achieve their best.

Commitment From Our School

Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s challenging State academic standards.

Gillespie Park will provide high-quality instruction aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study through the use of district-approved instructional materials, small group instruction, and differentiated learning strategies. Teachers will engage in ongoing professional development, data days, and culturally responsive teaching practices to support all learners. Social-emotional learning and trauma-informed practices will also be embedded to ensure a supportive learning environment.

Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.

Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.

Provide parents with reasonable access to staff.

Provide parents with opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities.

Ensure regular two-way, meaningful communication between family members and school staff that is, to the extent practicable, in a language that family members can understand.

We will participate in parent-teacher conferences, ensure that assignments are completed, and foster a positive attitude toward learning at home through the use of weekly homework choice boards. We will encourage strong study habits by creating a quiet, well-lit space for learning, setting aside time each day for reading and vocabulary practice, and monitoring our child's academic progress regularly. We will provide assistance when needed, help our children set realistic academic goals, and reinforce the importance of education in everyday life. We will review our child's folders and assignments to remain connected and informed, maintain ongoing communication with teachers, and stay involved in school events.
